Biography

A senior healthcare executive with multi-national corporates, start-ups and not-for profit experience spanning:

Governance, marketing, strategy and business development, new product development and international market management.

Successful at leading and developing multi-disciplinary teams in complex businesses with multiple stakeholders.

Culturally astute with proven expertise in working within and across diverse cultures.

Mike started his international career with Colgate-Palmolive before joining SmithKline-Beecham in Australia. Mike was promoted to Global Marketing Director for GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) in London with responsibilities for the growth of strategic brands. Mike relocated to Tokyo to direct a joint venture between GSK and Taisho Pharmaceutical before returning to GSK Corporate HQ as Director of Strategy and Marketing Excellence.

During his tenure at GSK the divisions he helped lead assisted seven million to people quit smoking, thus improving health, reducing mortality, and easing the burden of diseases on national health systems.

Mike left the corporate world to join a genetic test start-up, Synergenz Bioscience, as Chief Marketing Officer before acquiring the rights to the company’s Respiragene™ test and founding GeneAction market the test in the UK.

Prior returning to New Zealand with his family Mike co-authored ‘SwitchCraft’ a book on switching prescription medicines to over the counter commissioned by DVL Smith a London based consultancy.

Since returning to New Zealand in 2014 Mike has worked part time for the Medical Technology Association of New Zealand initially as Business Development Manager and currently as Head of Government Affairs and Policy. In these roles Mike has used his international experience and networks to improve patient access to life saving and life changing technologies.

Mike runs a medtech consultancy Accelerate Medica in NZ that focusses on medtech. His clients include companies developing AI driven diagnostics, virtual reality treatments, COVID eliminating air technologies, major health retailers, biotech companies and medical device start ups. through his consultancy Mike first advised then took a stake in Endo-Technologies after recognising its potential.
