About

Blue Equity, LLC is an independent, private equity firm that invests in enterprises with solid developmental potential. We form partnerships with existing management teams to leverage the collective expertise of all involved. Our investment efforts and managerial capabilities are focused on the operation of a global and diversified portfolio.

A History of Innovation

Established in 2004, Blue Equity is built on a legacy of leadership in business dating back four generations to 1913. It was then that David Blusinsky (his last name later shortened to Blue) immigrated to the United States and co-founded the Louisville Scrap Material Company in Louisville, Kentucky. The business developed into a thriving regional operation before ownership took the company global by focusing its operations on providing full-service metals recycling and supplies to railroads. Under this leadership, the Blue Industrial Group was transformed into a diversified enterprise that served markets worldwide.

After working as a management consultant in New York City, Jonathan Blue returned to Louisville and joined the Blue Family business in the early 1990’s. He oversaw an expansion that led the company’s transformation into one of the largest suppliers to railroads, while also adding a railcar leasing entity. The company was eventually sold to the largest processor of railroad materials in the world, Progress Rail Services Corporation. The business is now owned by Caterpillar (CAT-NYSE). From that sale, liquidity was generated to invest in and launch new entities.

In 2004, after building a portfolio of businesses in media, publishing, and financial services, Jonathan founded a successor entity, Blue Equity, LLC. Blue Equity has since become a leading private equity firm with diversified holdings in a wide-range of industries and real estate. Since inception, the company has invested in and had success with several business ventures worldwide.
